What practical use does the iPad have?

Am i the only one that thinks the iPad is kinda dumb? It's an awkward size, so anyone walking by could see what you were looking at (not like it be anything bad haha), travel isn't the greastest, and a macbook air seems very similar to it, just it folds, and doesn't have a touch screen. can you tell me what the practical use of this thing is?
